Inside Campus Partners
Monica Whicker: Customer Service Representative

April 2007

Monica Whicker is Campus Partners’ sweetheart. For nearly 22 years she has worked for Campus Partners and during this time she has gained the adoration of everyone she has come into contact with, both customers and employees alike. “There’s nothing not to love about Monica,” states Sharon Cameron, Audit and Compliance Specialist. Not only is she a joy to work with, she is also one of our most knowledgeable and proficient resources.

“Monica is so conscientious and always strives to do the best job possible. She never hesitates to take on additional responsibilities or to assist anyone. Her knowledge of System III, government rules and regulations, all of the different loan programs, processing procedures and products is unsurpassed and she is relied upon not only by her coworkers but also the management staff,” commends Kathy Riddle, Customer Service Manager. Sharon Cameron echoes Kathy’s portrayal of Monica and further validates by adding, “Monica is truly my Health and Human Services expert.”

As a Customer Service Representative, Monica’s days include making adjustments on accounts, separation date maintenance, and processing clearinghouse, deferment and disability assignment forms. She also spends a great deal of time talking with customers, which is the part of her job Monica says she enjoys the most because she loves being around people. “I like getting to know the schools and the people. You can really get to know them on a personal level,” Monica states.

Monica started as a forms analyst when she first joined Campus Partners. She was then promoted to borrower services and also set up accounts working with a Tuition Installments Plan program. Having come to Campus Partners right out of school, Monica says this is the only place she has ever worked and doesn’t plan on ever leaving. “I love my customers and the employees are like family. I wouldn’t trade that for the world,” Monica exclaims.

Working in Customer Service is befitting to Monica’s upbeat personality and pleasant demeanor. “I always try to keep a smile on my face when talking with customers,” Monica expresses. “I believe that the expression on your face comes through over the phone.” Monica also says she works hard to get answers to her customers in a timely fashion. “If I have to research an issue, I make an extra effort to keep in touch with the customer so they know I am following through,” she explains. Monica is passionate about the work she does and says she is proud of the bonds she has formed with her customers over the years. Bonds she says she will never break. “I am here for them. That’s my responsibility,” Monica states emphatically.

Monica met her husband, Todd, when she was only 14-years old. The high school sweethearts have been happily married for 21 years and have two daughters, Alisha and Ashley. Alisha, 19, is a freshman at an out-of-state college studying nursing. “The hardest thing I ever had to do as a parent was drop her off at school,” Monica reveals. (She confesses that she and her husband have already visited five times!) Ashley, 17, is a senior in high school and is fast becoming an impressive computer graphics artist.

With her mother, siblings, and in-laws all living nearby, Monica is deeply rooted in the Winston-Salem area. She says that spending time with her family, especially her children, is what she values the most. “I know my time with them is dwindling because soon they’ll be all grown up.” Monica is also actively involved with her church, enjoys listening to country and contemporary music and likes watching the television shows “Grey’s Anatomy” and “American Idol.”

Monica is the type of person who is admired by everyone. Not only is she delightful and kind, she is also a dedicated employee, a hard worker and a true friend to her customers and coworkers. She lights up any room she walks into and can bring a smile to your face just by being in her presence. Kathy Riddle captured all our sentiments of Monica by stating, “She’s the best!”
